David Beckham's style evolution in pictures

As David Beckham goes global with the launch of his bodywear collection for H&M, we revisit the fashion-loving footballer's most memorable style moments.

Rising football star David Beckham, and his pop star girlfriend Victoria Adams, land from a long-haul flight in casual style (he does, at least) in 1997. Note the Louis Vuitton tote as a sign of designer-loving things to come.

West Indies Player dance Style

West Indies celebrate World T20 triumph in `Gangnam` style

Colombo: West Indies celebrated in "Gangnam" style their World Twenty20 triumph at the Premedasa Stadium here Sunday night.

Their celebrations knew no bounds as they broke a 33-year-long wait to lift a World Cup.

It was also West Indies` second International Cricket Council (ICC) title in eight years, having won the Champions Trophy in 2004. West Indies last won a World Cup - 50 overs format - way back in 1979.

Chris Gayle was at the centre of celebrations, dancing to "Gangnam Style".

"Gangnam Style", by South Korean rapper PSY, is a satire of life in Seoul, where people are trendy and hip.

At the Premedasa, the "Gangnam Style" symbolised the story of the Caribbean resurgence. It has been the mojo of the Caribbean side in the tournament.

Man of the Match Marlon Samuels said it was a new start to West Indies cricket.

"Put in a lot of hard work. I dedicate the win to Jamaica, to the West Indies. Can`t explain how much it means to me. Thanks to Sri Lanka, I had some good food. They beat us twice, I tell Chris (Gayle) we can`t lose thrice."

"The wicket was a bit slow, today was a different mindset, I decided to attack Malinga their best bowler and it paid off. We are working together as a unit. Future wise I think West Indies are going to do well, even in Test cricket. Test cricket is the best cricket," said Samuels.

Birthday boy Dwayne Bravo said there was a lot of belief among the teammates.

"We had the belief, we had some of the better players in our team. It was just a matter of getting our heads together," said Bravo.

Wishing Bravo, Gayle screamed: "Happy birthday Bravo. I guess we didn`t disappoint."

Team manager Richie Richardson, also a former captain, was ecstatic.

David Beckham Workout Schedule

David Beckham Workout Tips

Soccer is one of the world's most physically demanding sports, so it's no surprise that David Beckham's conditioning plan is grueling. Check out this snapshot of his training regimen, courtesy of Chris Neville, fitness coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy. Then try our modified version of the 5-week workout, which we've tweaked slightly for the average guy. (After all, Beckham is one of the fittest men on earth.) And while you may not be competing at world-class level, this high-intensity interval plan will help you look as if you do.

Directions
Perform your challenge twice a week at an intensity tailored to your maximum heart rate (MHR). To estimate your MHR, subtract your age from 220. Then use a heart-rate monitor (we like the Suunto t3c; $170 at suuntowatches.com) to ensure you're training at the prescribed percentage. (Just multiply the percentage given in each workout by your MHR to find your target heart rate.)

WEEK 1

Beckham's Workout
5-minute run
Intensity: 85% MHR
Rest: 4 minutes
Sets: 3

Your Challenge
5-minute run
Intensity: 75% MHR
Rest: Until your heart rate is 60% of your MHR
Sets: As many runs as you can do in 30 minutes

Michael Phelps Diet

Michael  Phelps Diet Schedule

BREAKFAST

  • Michael eats a whole bag of pasta this size for lunch and then another one for dinner
  • Three fried-egg sandwiches
  • Three chocolate chip pancakes
  • A five-egg omelette
  • Three sugar-coated slices of French toast
  • A bowl of grits (maize porridge)

LUNCH

  • Half a kilogram of pasta
  • Two large ham and cheese sandwiches covered in mayonnaise
  • Gallons of energy drinks

DINNER

  • Half a kilogram of pasta
  • Pizza
  • Energy drinks

Everyone is amazed to hear that anyone could possibly consume 12,000 calories each day, but Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps’ diet includes lots of food when he is training. Phelps trains six days a week and exercises five hours a day, so he is using up the calories that he consumes. He revealed his typical daily diet during an interview that amazed everyone to hear that his breakfast alone includes three fried egg sandwiches with a lot of cheese, lettuce, tomato, fried onions, and mayonnaise. That is only the beginning though. He also drinks two cups of coffee, and eats a five egg omelet, one bowl of grits, which are a maize porridge, three slices of French toast with powdered sugar, and three chocolate chip pancakes.

Most people eat that much in two days, but Michael Phelps’ diet must give him the energy he needs. For lunch, he then has one pound of pasta with tomato sauce, two large ham and cheese sandwiches with mayonnaise on white bread, plus energy drinks that equal around 1,000 calories. Dinner includes another pound of pasta with sauce, a whole pizza of six or eight slices, and more energy drinks. Even cyclists in the Tour de France only consume around 8,000 to 10,000 calories per day when they are competing.

Health professionals, such as sports trainers, nutritionists, physicians, and others say that Phelps can probably eat whatever he wants to eat. This is because his metabolism is so fast that he burns calories much faster than the average man of his age. His extreme training has forced his metabolism to speed up so that he can accommodate this many calories without becoming chubby or overweight. Just by looking at his perfect body, it is easy to tell that he is not overeating. Professionals add that Michael Phelps diet consists of the calories he needs for energy to give his muscles fuel and to recover and repair the muscles. He has around eight percent fat in his body, and if he does not consume enough carbohydrates during a competition, Phelps could reach the stage when the body is out of carbohydrate fuel or muscle glycogen and it needs to begin to burn fat. It is more difficult for the body to burn fat than to use available carbohydrates, and if the body has to do this it puts more stress on the body than just using available carbohydrate energy.

Nutritionists and dietitians do add that Phelps would do better by substituting whole wheat bread for his white bread on his egg sandwiches. They say that he should also eat more fruits and vegetables. Others say that smaller meals plus snacks would be better for him as they would provide a more steady stream of carbohydrates. One problem for an athlete like Phelps is requiring so much energy from a lot of food, but not feeling stuffed from eating so much. If an athlete is too full, that is a factor that could slow him down. Also, it takes time to eat 12,000 calories each day. That is why a great deal of his calories are provided by energy drinks. Although Phelps will not reveal which one he drinks, there are a few that have around 1,000 calories per drink, which would help get him up to his caloric intake requirements. These energy drinks may also have fats in them to boost their calorie count, and fats have two and one-half times the calories than carbohydrates or proteins.

Michael Phelps diet must be perfect for him, because his swimming record and many gold medals prove that he is in perfect physical shape. Not many people swim 50 miles per week like he does.

Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps Swimming

profile

Michael Phelps, born on June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American swimmer who has won 22 Olympic medals—six gold and two bronze at Athens in 2004, eight gold at Beijing in 2008, and four gold and two silver at London in 2012. Phelps holds the record for most gold medals won in a single Olympics (Beijing, 2008), and set a new record for most Olympic medals in 2012, beating gymnast Larisa Latynina's prior record of 18.

Michael Fred Phelps was born on June 30, 1985 in Baltimore, Maryland, to Fred and Debbie Phelps. The youngest of three children, Michael Phelps and his sisters grew up in the neighborhood of Rodgers Forge. His father, Fred, an all-around athlete, was a state trooper; mother Debbie was a middle-school principal. When Phelps's parents divorced in 1994, he and his siblings went to live with their mother, with whom Michael grew very close.

Phelps began swimming when his two older sisters, Whitney (born in 1978) and Hilary (born in 1980), joined a local swim team. Whitney tried out for the U.S. Olympic team in 1996, at the age of 15, but injuries derailed her career. At age 7, Phelps was still "a little scared" to put his head under water, so his instructors allowed him to float around on his back. Not surprisingly, the first stroke he mastered was the backstroke.

After he saw swimmers Tom Malchow and Tom Dolan compete at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, Phelps began to dream of becoming a champion. He launched his swimming career at the Loyola High School pool. He met his coach, Bob Bowman, when he started training at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club at the Meadowbrook Aquatic and Fitness Center. The coach immediately recognized Phelps's talents and fierce sense of competition and began an intense training regime together. By 1999, Phelps had made the U.S. National B Team.

At the age of 15, Phelps became the youngest American male swimmer at an Olympic Games in 68 years. While he didn't win a medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, he would soon become a major force in competitive swimming.

World-Renowned Olympic Medalist

In the spring of 2001, Phelps set the world record in the 200-meter butterfly, becoming the youngest male swimmer in history (at 15 years and 9 months) to ever set a world swimming record. He then broke his own record at the 2001 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, with a time of 1:54:58, earning his first international medal. Phelps continued to set new marks at the 2002 U.S. Summer Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, establishing a new world record for the 400-meter individual medley, and U.S. records in the 100-meter butterfly and the 200-meter individual medley. The following year, at the same event, he broke his own world record in the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:09.09.

Shortly after graduating from Towson in 2003, a 17-year-old Phelps set five world records, including the 200-meter individual medley at the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, with a time of 1:56:04. Then during the U.S. trials for the 2004 Summer Olympics, he broke his own world again in the 400 meter individual medley, with a time of 4:08:41.

Phelps became a superstar at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, winning eight medals (including six gold), tying with Soviet gymnast Aleksandr Dityatin (1980) for the most medals in a single Olympic Games. Phelps scored the first of six gold medals on August4, when he broke his own world record in the 400-meter individual medley, shaving 0.15 seconds of his previous mark. He also won gold in the 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly, 200-meter individual medley, 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay and 4-by-100-meter medley relay). The two events in Athens, in which Phelps took bronze medals, were 200-meter freestyle and the 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay.

Just weeks following his triumph in Athens,

Phelps was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in Salisbury, Maryland, after cruising through a stop sign. He pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, was sentenced to 18 months probation, fined $250, ordered to speak against drinking and driving to high school students, and ordered to attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving meeting. Michael called it an "isolated incident," but admitted to letting himself and his family down.
Phelps soon followed coach Bowman to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, studying sports marketing and management. Bowman coached the Wolverines' swim team and guided Club Wolverine, of which Phelps was once a member.

Phelps continued to establish world records at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, British Columbia, and the 2007 World Championships in Melbourne, Australia. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Phelps won gold in the 4-by-100-meter individual relay, 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay, 200-meter freestyle, 200-meter butterfly, 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay, 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter butterfly. Every gold medal performance set a new world record, except the 100-meter butterfly, which set an Olympic record. Phelps also set the all-time single Olympics gold-medal record, surpassing swimmer Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven golds; he had won his 14th career gold medal, the most gold won by any Olympian.

In 2012, Phelps's Olympic medal increased to 22 and he set a new record for most Olympic medals, beating gymnast Larisa Latynina's prior record of 18. At the 2012 Olympic Games, held in London, he won four gold medals, in the 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay, 200-meter individual medley, 100-meter butterfly and 4-by-100-meter medley relay; and two silver medals, in the 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay and 200-meter butterfly. Phelps also holds the record for the most gold medals won in a single Olympics (eight gold medals at Beijing in 2008).

Other Projects

In addition to his successful swim career, Phelps has written two books. His second book, No Limits: The Will to Succeed, hit bookstores on December 9, 2008. Phelps also co-founded the nonprofit organization Swim with the Stars, which holds camps for swimmers of all ages.

Tiger Woods Scandal

Tiger Woods sex scandal update: Porn star Devon James makes 15 mistresses as Elin continues to fume

These sources' details mesh with the more credible accounts of the post-Thanksgiving altercation to date, and we've excerpted some scandalous details here:

During the run-up to Thanksgiving, Tiger gave Elin advance warning that the National Enquirer was about to run a story claiming he had an affair with Rachel Uchitel.

Woods swore the story was false and that he had only met Uchitel 1-2 times at social outings. The day before Thanksgiving, Tiger convinced Uchitel to talk to Elin.

Rachel Uchitel spoke to her for half an hour, and Elin believed that the relationship was platonic - until she read the Enquirer's specifics of the purported affair.

Sources say Elin Woods busted Rachel Uchitel via text message.

That evening, the two argued. Tiger decided to end the bickeringby taking Ambien and going to sleep (he often took Ambien to help him sleep - and bang Uchitel).

After Woods fell asleep, Elin looked through his phone, found texts to Uchitel (under her real name) and discovered one saying “You are the only one I’ve loved.”

Shortly after 1 a.m. in Florida, Elin began texting Rachel Uchitel, pretending to be Tiger, writing “I miss you,” and asking, “When are we seeing each other again?”

Uchitel texted back, surprised that Woods was awake. Elin felt this response indicated that the two of them spoke earlier that night, before Tiger took his Ambien.

At that point, Elin Woods called Uchitel, who answered thinking it was Tiger. Elin said something approximating, “I knew it was you.” Uchitel’s shocked reply: “Oh f--k.”

She immediately hung up.

Normally quiet and controlled, Elin became enraged and woke Tiger by screaming at him. He seemed disoriented from the Ambien. The fight ratcheted up quickly.

Shortly after waking up, Tiger sent another text to Uchitel warning that Elin uncovered the affair, that he was about to pack, and their divorce might be imminent.

Elin found this text too, though, after he locked himself in the bathroom for several minutes without his phone. Elin didn’t tell Woods what she’d seen, however.

After he came out, she exploded, trying to hit him on the chest and arms with her fists, and then finally chasing him from the house while she wielded a golf club.

An expression we imagine Tiger Woods has worn a lot lately.

Shoeless, he ran into the car and peeled out of the driveway before crashing into a fire hydrant and then smashing into a tree, resulting in the police being called.

Woods went to the hospital and when he was released, Tiger was whisked off to an undisclosed location, as Elin was too furious to allow him back that afternoon.

This likely explains why Elin told police who arrived at their mansion outside Orlando that Woods was not able to speak with them then, saying he was asleep.

Representatives for Tiger and Elin have not commented on this. Gloria Allred, attorney for Rachel Uchitel, commented only to say “We have no comment on this.”

According to a friend, Elin remains furious, but their marriage is not over yet. She will wait for the golfer to finish sex addiction rehab before making a decision.

She was with him in rehab this weekend, according to reports, adding credence to reports that she may still take him back. But all bets certainly remain off.

A third porn star spewed tawdry tales of threesomes with Woods on Tuesday amid reports that his still-furious wife may skip his big return to golf.

Devon James, a Florida-based "adult entertainer," claims she bedded Woods over a 2-1/2-year stretch.

In a radio interview, she recounted her first meeting with Woods just minutes before a three-way.
"Hi, I'm Tiger. Nice to meet you," she quoted him as saying before they quickly got down to business.
Woods, 34, allegedly paid the two women $2,000 each for what she described as "dirty" sex.
"There was very little talk the first time," said James, a 29-year-old busty blond.
Woods immediately asked for her personal phone number and the affair continued into 2008, she claimed.
The trysts bring the total of Woods' mistresses to 15, by some counts, in his five-year marriage.
That new tales of his infidelities are still emerging has Woods' wife, Elin, furious, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
She'll likely won't be there when her husband hits the links next month at the Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga., the paper and People magazine both reported.
"By not going, she sends a signal that she is staying with Tiger only because of the children," a source told People.
Meanwhile, James said she had phone records verifying her claim of a relationship with Woods, including one that says, "I want you to be my whore." Woods also has been linked to porn stars Joslyn James and Holly Sampson.

Lionel Messi Salary

Lionel Messi Earning

According to France Football, who released figures for the best paid players in the world on Tuesday, Barcelona forward Messi raked in €33 million last year from wages and sponsorship deals.

LA Galaxy midfielder and former England captain Beckham, for so long the game’s top earner, came in second on €31.5m, while Real Madrid star Ronaldo collected €29.2m in 2011.

Elsewhere, Samuel Eto’o, who made a lucrative move from Inter to Anzhi Makhachkala last summer, is fourth on the list, with Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney fifth.

Wealthy Premier League outfit Manchester City have two players in the top ten, with Argentine forward Sergio Aguero and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure sixth and seventh, respectively.

The only other club represented twice are Madrid, with Ronaldo's team-mate Kaka ranking ninth.

Elsewhere, it is worth noting that Chelsea misfit Fernando Torres, who finally got back amongst the goals at the weekend, netted €16.7m during his disastrous first 12 months at Stamford Bridge.

There is not a single player based in Serie A in the top 10 but there is one representative from the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm.

Lionel Messi Personal Life

Blessed with supreme talents on the pitch, Leo has also proven to be something of an angel off it. He has been well documented for his humbled and mature attitude in conferences, in age of which such qualities are rarer to find in the game. To bolster this tag further, Lionel made a tribute to his father Jorge after scoring a goal for Argentina against Venezuela, by revealing a message under his shirt. Furthermore in 2009, he showed respect to sufferers of fragile x syndrome after scoring in El Clasico, and then in the off-season worked with the Family Association of Spinal Muscular Atrophy to aid victims of this condition.

Messi, being the media darling that he is, has been linked to a number of girls, of which it has been said he had been dating. The fist of these was Macarena Lemos, a young Argentine from his home town of Rosario. He has in the past also been linked to the Argentine model, Luciana Salazar, who was the official Argentinian representative model at the 2006 World Cup. However, both these stories were quashed as not true. Lionel stunned many of his fans when, In January 2009, he told “Hat Trick Barça”, in response to a question posed by a child “I have a girlfriend and she is living in Argentina, I am relaxed and happy”. The girl has since been identified as ‘Antonella’, a fellow native of Rosario.

With an ever increasing reputation, Konami approached Leo to work on their famous football gaming series, ‘Pro Evolution Soccer’. He features on the front cover of both the video games Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and 2010, whilst also undergoing promotional campaigns and motion-capturing for for the games.

The Argentine has also been contacted to support the works of the Unicef charity. FC Barcelona currently display the UNICEF logo on their shirts and it appears the organisation are keen to expand their relationship by utilising the global recognition of Lionel Messi.

profile
Name: Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini
Age: 23
Nationality: Argentinian
Height: 169cm
Weight: 67kg
Place of Birth: Rosario (Argentina)
Date of Birth: 24.06.1987
Brothers: Rodrigo, Matias, Hijos
Sister: Marisol
Mother: Celia Cuccittini
Father: Jorge Messi

In 2005, Lionel Messi Argentina to the title in the under-20 World Cup, scoring on a pair of penalty kicks to propel the team over Nigeria. In recent years, Messi has become one of the game's highest paid players, earning an estimated $18 million a year. In 2009, he steered Barcelona to Champions League, La Liga and Spanish Club titles and took home the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Professional soccer player. Born Luis Lionel Andres Messi on June 24, 1987, in Rosario, Argentina. Messi, who stands just 5-foot 7-inches, got his start in the game at the age of 8, when he started playing for the Newell's Old Boys, a team in Rosario. Recognizably smaller than most of the boys he played with, Messi was eventually diagnosed by doctors as suffering from a hormone deficiency that restricted his growth.

Medication wasn't cheap??about 500 a month??and Messi's parents couldn't afford to pay for it on their own. So, at the age of 13, when Messi was offered a chance to play for Barcelona with the opportunity to have his medical bills covered by the team, Messi's family picked up and moved across the Atlantic to make a new home in Spain.

Short and fast with a fierce style of play, Messi soon drew comparisons to another famous Argentinean footballer: Diego Maradona. Messi moved quickly through the ranks of the team's junior system, and by the age of 16 Messi had made his first appearance for Barcelona. He put himself in the record books on May 1, 2005, as the youngest player to ever score a goal for the franchise. That same year he led Argentina to the title in the under-20 World Cup, scoring on a pair of penalty kicks to propel the team over Nigeria.

In recent years Messi has become one of the game's highest paid players, earning an estimated $18 million a year. He's justified the price-tag by steering Barcelona to a wealth of success, most notably in 2009 when the left-footer's team captured the Champions League, La Liga, and Spanish Club titles. That same year, after two consecutive runner-up finishes, he took home the FIFA World Player of the Year award.

Even the great Maradona has gushed about his fellow countryman.
"I see him as very similar to me," the retired player told the BBC. "He's a leader and is offering lessons in beautiful football. He has something different to any other player in the world."

Off the field Messi, who got his EU citizenship in 2009, has tried to make a name for himself. In early 2010, he was named a Goodwill Ambassador by UNICEF with a focus on fighting for children's rights across the globe.

Lionel Messi’s girlfriend

 Lionel Messi’s girlfriend

Despite being repeatedly linked with beautiful celebrities, including Luciana Salazar, Claudia Ciardone, and even the former girlfriend of English player Ashley Cole, Cheryl Cole, the truth is that the heart of the best football player in the world has an owner.

Her name is Antonella Roccuzzo, is from Rosario as Lionel, and is studying nutrition. With a simple and fresh look, Messi’s girlfriend continues next to the player and according to friends, is one of the main reasons of his performance, containing him and making him happy off the field.

Antonella is the cousin of his best friend and former partner at Newell’s, Lucas Scaglia, and is defined as “simple”, “humble” and “quiet”, same attributes of Barcelona star.

For this reason, following the well-known phrase “behind every great man there is always a great woman,” if Argentina accomplishes successfully”, part of the credit must be for Antonella.

Golf Prodigy

Athlete. Born Eldrick Tont Woods on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California, as the only child of an African-American Army officer father and a Thai mother. His father began calling Woods by the nickname "Tiger" in honor of a fellow soldier and friend who had the same moniker.

He studied at Stanford University, and won a number of amateur U.S. golf titles before turning professional in 1996. Usain Bolt World Record

Usain Bolt

BIOGRAPHY

Arguably the most naturally gifted athlete the world has ever seen, Usain St Leo Bolt, confirmed his tremendous talents when he realized his dreams by winning a phenomenal three gold medals and breaking three world records at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.  Bolt became the first man in Olympic history to win both the 100m and 200m races in world record times and then as part of the 4x100m team that also smashed the world record later in the meet. He created history again and became a legend at the 2012 Olympic Games in London by defending all three Olympic titles with 100m, 200m and 4x100m victories, the latter in a new world record time of 36.84 secs.

Between his Olympic successes Usain stayed firmly in the global spotlight winning three gold medals and setting two individual world records at the 2009 IAAF World T&F Championships in Berlin, Germany.  He lowered his 100m time to a staggering 9.58 secs, his 200m time to 19.19 secs and running the third leg helped Jamaica to gold in the 4x100m.  He defended his World Championships title in the 200m at the 2011 IAAF World T&F Championships in Daegu, Korea and anchored Jamaica to another world record of 37.04 secs in the 4x100m. Usain is currently one of the biggest names in the world of sport – both on and off the track.

While the world danced and celebrated with this precocious talent, this was a dream waiting to happen and not just an overnight sensation.

As early as age 14, young Usain was opening eyes with his lightning speed from regional championships in western Jamaica to national meets set in Kingston to meets in the wider Caribbean.

Usain’s ascent to the pinnacle of world sprinting started with the most unlikely of events as his first medal at any meet came in the 80 hurdles in Class Three at Western Champs held on the campus of his Alma Mater William Knibb Memorial High in Martha Brae, Trelawny when he ‘jumped’ his way to a bronze medal.

Because he towered above his peers even then, Bolt was also entered in the high jump event and was a promising fast bowler in cricket before been encouraged to channel his energies on the track.

By 2001 Bolt became a known commodity and he sent signals that he would be a world beater in early 2002 when he cruised to a hand timed 20.3 seconds to win the 200m at Western Champs finals at Catherine Hall.

Later that year he went on to win the 200m/400m double at CARIFTA Trials before winning four gold medals at the meet held in Nassau, Bahamas.

He announced his arrival to the wider global audience in July 2002 when at the IAAF World Junior T&F Championships in Kingston in front of the biggest crowd ever to watch these meets, he won the host nation’s only individual gold medal, winning the 200m in 20.61 seconds.  He left that meet with three medals including two silver medals in the relays, anchoring the 4x100m team and was part of the 4x400m team as well.

That was the start of a meteoric climb to the top that also saw him winning two IAAF Rising Star awards.

It was not always smooth sailing however as injuries slowed him down at several junctures of his career.

Soon after breaking the Word Junior Record in the 200m with a time of 19.93 seconds at the CARIFTA Games in Hamilton, Bermuda in 2004, Bolt was slowed by a troublesome hamstring injury.  He qualified for the final of the 200m at the 2005 IAAF World T&F Championships in Helsinki, Finland but in cold and wet weather pulled up before the finish holding his hamstring.

He missed what turned out to be a ‘Jamaican party’ at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2006 when he suffered another hamstring injury while running a leg of the 4x400m relay for the IAAF High performance Centre’s team at the Gibson Relays in Kingston.  Jamaican athletes swept all the sprint events at the meet, despite his absence.

Fortunately, he recovered well enough later that year to set a personal best of 19.88 secs in the 200m and place second in the 200m at the IAAF World Cup of Athletics in Stuttgart, Germany.

2007 was the breakthrough year in that he broke the 30 year old Jamaican 200m Record, held by the great Donald Quarrie, with a time of 19.75 secs to win the Jamaican Senior T&F Championships.  He went to the 2007 IAAF World T&F Championships in Osaka, Japan in good form and won two silver medals in the 200m and 4x 100m relay.

In 2008 Usain Bolt rewrote the history books and became one of the biggest sports stats on the planet.  He moved down in distance to the 100m sprint and in his second race of the year broke the world record with a time of 9.72 secs in New York.  Since then he has gone from strength to strength with his heroic achievements in the Olympic Games in Beijing and London and in the IAAF World T&F Championships in Berlin and Daegu.  He is undoubtedly the ‘World’s Fastest Man’ having broken the 100m world record three times and the 200m record two times.

Usain has been awarded the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year on two occasions (2009 & 2010); the IAAF Male Athlete of the Year three times (2008, 2009, 2011) as well as many awards in many countries in all corners of the world.  He has his own clothing line in conjunction with Puma; his own watch made by Hublot; his own headphone range ‘Soul by Usain Bolt’; his own restaurant ‘Tracks & Records’ in Kingston, Jamaica; the ‘Usain Bolt Foundation’ and endorses some of the top brands in the world.
